Can I buy iPod Touch from The Z™?
No. The Z™ is not selling iPod Touch. You can purchase the iPod Touch (4th Generation) from the Apple Store, order online, or call 800.331.0500 (voice). They are also available at Amazon, Best Buy, Target and Walmart.
Which iPod Touch model should I get?
Be sure to get the newest iPod Touch (4th Generation) with FaceTime built in. You can choose any memory you want—from 8GB to 64GB—with prices starting at $229 for the 8GB model.
How much does it cost to use the ZVRS app?
There is no charge to download the ZVRS app from the iTunes App Store to your iPod Touch (4th Generation) or to use the app to place ZVRS calls from iPod Touch. If your WiFi hotspot is free, then the video call is free. If your WiFi hotspot requires payment for access, then this payment will allow a video call to take place.
Where can I find free WiFi?
Many locations! The App Store even has a FREE WiFi finder app (JiWire) that helps you find hotspots nearby. Popular locations include Starbucks, McDonalds, public libraries, Panera Bread, Barnes & Noble, Borders, hotels and many more. Don’t forget you can use the WiFi at your home, friend’s house or work!
Do I need to create a profile on The Z™ website to use the ZVRS app?
Yes. It takes just minutes to create a new profile at www.zvrs.com/my/accounts/new. This will provide you with a customized experience with our certified interpreters.
How do I make VRS calls with ZVRS?
You have two options for making ZVRS calls using the ZVRS app:
1. Use “Call Contacts” to access the hearing contacts you have on your iPod Touch.
2. Use “Dial Number” to manually dial any hearing contact’s phone number if it is not saved in your iPod Touch’s contacts.
Can a hearing person call me through ZVRS on iPod Touch?
At this time, the ZVRS app is only for placing calls from iPod Touch (4th Generation) or iPhone 4. You are not able to receive ZVRS calls from hearing people on iPod Touch.
However, if you manually dial 911 on your iPhone 4 yourself, the call will NOT connect to ZVRS, and it will work like placing a 911 call through TTY/TDD. After calling 911, don’t hang up. Just leave the phone call connected to 911, and the GPS should work to direct emergency services to where you and your iPhone 4 are located.
Can I call someone’s videophone to talk to them point-to-point using the ZVRS app?
No. As the name implies, this is only for use to place a ZVRS call to a hearing person. iPod Touch (4th Generation) uses FaceTime to make video calls and, thus, cannot connect directly to an actual videophone. The only way to place a “point-to-point” call on iPod Touch is to call another iPod Touch (4th Generation) or iPhone 4 customer. FaceTime works only when connected to another device that uses FaceTime, and at this time FaceTime is only available on iPod Touch (4th Generation) and iPhone 4.
Will the ZVRS app work on mobile devices other than iPod Touch?
At this time, FaceTime is needed to use the ZVRS app, and FaceTime is currently unique to Apple’s iPod Touch (4th Generation) and iPhone 4.
Can I use the ZVRS app to place VCO Plus or HolaVRS on iPod Touch?
No. At this time, VCO Plus and HolaVRS are not available through the ZVRS app.
Will the ZVRS app on iPod Touch work with 911?
You can make your emergency call by contacting ZVRS through the ZVRS app and requesting to be connected to 911, we will not be able to determine the location of your phone using GPS. The VI will need to ask you for your location, which will then be relayed to the 911 operator.
Can the iPod Touch download Apps from the App Store like the iPhone 4?
Yes. You can choose from approximately 250,000 apps from the App Store, including apps for banking, news, games, sports and restaurants.
Can I take pictures and video with iPod Touch?
Yes. The iPod Touch has HD video capabilities with a built-in editor, as well as a camera for taking pictures.
Can I use email on iPod Touch?
Absolutely. You can send email to anyone—similar to BlackBerry. However, iPod Touch requires a WiFi connection for email to work.
